Top 10 Royals – 7th Edition (First 100)
Well we’ve now been to 100 Royal Hotels across Australia. And to celebrate our century, we’ve updated our top 10 list of the Royals we’ve visited (as we do every time we hit another 10). For the first time since we’ve been doing these updates, our favourite 10 Royals has not changed since last time. Although a few (I’m thinking of Tenterfield specifically) were very close to cracking that top 10 list.
However, after deep deliberation, we have decided that a change in the order was warranted. And that change is right at the top with a brand new #1. Since we started doing this Top 10 list, Manduarama has reigned as our favourite Royal we’ve visited. However, it has been closed for a couple of years now searching for a new operator.
After much discussion, John and I decided the #1 Royal should be one you can still visit. So we have demoted Mandurama slightly down to #2 (we still had an awesome time there and it ticked nearly every box you’d want in a pub, except being currently open). So congratulations to our new #1 Royal: Horsham. The entire list (as well as a reminder about our criteria) is below:
Just a reminder about our criteria:
- the criteria will be be completely and utterly subjective.
- most likely it will not be consistent.
- it will be solely based on the the time we had when we were at the Royals in question and subject to our whims.
- if you visited them, you might not enjoy them as much as we did. Heck, if we went back WE might not enjoy them as much the second time around (but probably we would).
- An emerging theme seems to be that great publicans/bar staff are a key factor in making this list
- the link to the write-up for each of these Top Ten Royal Hotels is included below
