Royal Hotel West Wyalong

After a couple weeks’ break we’re back. We last left off in Mirrool with their great Royal and better contest/backstory. From there we headed half an hour up the Newell Highway to the Royal Hotel West Wyalong.

West Wyalong is a town I’ve actually spent some time in over the years. But somehow I never found myself at the Royal Hotel there. Although I now wish I would’ve spent some time at the Royal on my previous visits.

Not the Royal but still a cool West Wyalong mural

The Royal Hotel West Wyalong is a very cool Royal. It’s got almost an Irish pub feel as you walk in the front door. The large amount of green incorporated into the décor probably has something to do with that. But Irish or not, it’s a really cool-looking, well done up Royal.

Just a very cool Royal

The front bar area is pleasant, comfortable (and yes a little Irish-pub-y). There’s a few little side rooms and a back beergarden/verandah/alley type area that is really cool (which I unfortunately didn’t discover until we were about to leave).

You gotta love a good beer garden/verandah/alley

We set up shop in the front bar area to get stuck into a couple of beers. And to our pleasant surprise, there were some good ones on offer. There was Capital, Young Henry’s, Stone & Wood, and (of course) Guinness all on tap.

Some decent beers on tap here (Guinness had its own tap at the other end of the bar)

As we settled in with our schooners, the unanimous opinion around the table was that we wished this was a Royal we could’ve ended the day on and gotten properly stuck in (John and I had Murrurundi vibes in that regard).

Could’ve definitely hung out here for a while

It was a good pub while we were there. But you just got the feeling that it’s the kind of place that would kick off and have a really good vibe on a weekend evening. Alas we didn’t get to find out. Maybe we’ll swing back by when we come out for the Mirrool Silo Kick next year.

We do love us some bespoke Royal signage

Before departing, we would’ve been remiss if we didn’t at least peruse the merch selection. As stated many times on this blog, we love Royal merch. So with multiple t-shirts in hand, we had to get back on the road. But I have a sneaking suspicion this might be a Royal we come back to.

Just don’t ask him to turn left
