Royal Hotel Sutherland

Finally it was time for the Big Smoke leg of the Royal Tour to come to an end.  We departed the solidly acceptable confines of Carlton for our final stop on this leg of the tour: The Royal Hotel Sutherland.

I would be lying if I said we rocked up to the Royal Hotel Sutherland with the same level of enthusiasm and vigour as when we had approached the Royal Hotel Leichardt.  But to be fair, Leichhardt had been 40-something hours and 8 Royals ago.

But we’re nothing if not resilient.  So into the Royal Hotel Sutherland we plunged.  And we were greeted with a pretty darn good pub.

The official last beer of this leg of the tour

The front bar was pretty standard, but nice.  Further through there was an enclosed garden/restaurant type area that actually looked really nice.  It was absolutely packed on a Sunday afternoon.  There definitely wasn’t room for us and we didn’t remember to take any photos so you’re just gonna have to take my word for it.

A pretty decent front bar to wile away a rainy day in

So we retired back to the front bar for our final beers of this leg of the tour just as the heavens opened up and a torrential downpour commenced.

Luckily for us, there were conveniently a couple of pool tables so I could once again assert my pool-based superiority over John.  All of this was set to an unlikely soundtrack comprised exclusively of hardcore 90’s rap music.  I don’t know exactly what music I was expecting at the Royal Hotel Sutherland, but I’m pretty sure that wasn’t it.

Me playing it super cool and totally not gloating about my pool superiority

Overall, this is definitely a Royal I could hang out it for a bit over a couple beers. And not just because of the good associations from my pool dominance.

So as the dulcet tones of the Wu-Tang clan wafted through the pub, we reflected on our whirlwind tour or Sydney’s Royals.  There had been highs (Leichhardt, Bondi, Ryde).  There had been lows (Darlington, Granville).  And there had been the exceptionally middle of the road (looking at you Carlton).  And we turned our thoughts to the next leg of the Royal Tour.
