Royal Hotel Corowa

Editor’s Note: After leaving the good folk of Berrigan to their hangovers, we headed for the Royal Hotel Corowa. For the final Royal of this leg of The Tour, I once again leave you in John’s capable-ish hands. Next week will start the beginning of the next leg of our tour as we journey through central NSW with a whole (or at least partly) new cast of characters.

John fighting off some end-of-trip blues

The Royal Hotel Corowa was the last on this trip to have us grace it with our presence. By this stage of the trip, it was Sunday afternoon and I personally had a touch of the Sunday blues. Couple that with the fact it was end of trip blues, with a long drive ahead, and the Corowa Royal was always going to be doing it tough to light our Royal world on fire. So this time I’ll give this review not from my perspective. But rather from what I could imagine other people see the Royal Hotel Corowa as.

Decent back beer garden

First there was the identically dressed boys group, lairy pink shirts. So the second day of a bucks I’d imagine. Then there’s the families with young kids getting good pub meals, enjoying a summers Sunday and arvo not having to cook, getting a cheeky beer and watching the kids chase each other around. The obligatory old boys at the front bar telling stories similar to the ones they told last week, but this week slightly better.

It has been long established that we on The Tour love ourselves a bit of Royal stained glass (looking at you Woodstock)

And of course the young American man waiting patiently for an hour for his meal while his mates refused to wait and scoffed their own feed (spoiler: it was Cory going hungry and Anthony and I getting full)

The Royal Hotel Corowa had a bit of history. A solid joint with a good outdoor area and a few pics of the Queen of course.

The Queen taking pride of place at the Royal

It probably isn’t a pub I’ll rush back to. But I can see why it’s a mainstay for others. A good honest pub in a small town. A social hub with pub grub (I should trade mark that). A good place to stave off the Sunday/ End of Trip blues.
