Royal Hotel Bowral

The next Royal was the last for this leg of the tour.  Weekend number 2 of the Royal Tour encompassed over 1,200km, 8 Royals, 3 days, and 1 thumping Sharks victory over the Tigers.  The final stop on the second official weekend of the tour also happened to be the closest to home: the Royal Hotel Bowral.

The Royal Hotel Bowral is one I’ve been to many times before (living only 20 minutes or so away).  But as per the strict rules of the tour, Royal Hotels visited prior to the official start of the tour must be re-visited to count.  As such, we found ourselves back at my local-est Royal for one last beer on this leg.

The last Royal on leg 2 of the tour

And excitingly (momentously, historically) the Royal Hotel Bowral also featured the first guest appearance on the tour: John’s dad Rod.  A long-time supporter of the Royal Tour (well at least since he first heard about it a couple months ago), it was an honour to have Rod make the first guest appearance.  As John and I had exhausted everything we had to say to each other at least 500km ago, it was an absolute breath of fresh air to be able to have a chat with Rod over a beer.

It was the end of a long trip, we needed the soft lighting

And while it may have been the Royal Tour’s first guest appearance, hopefully it won’t be the last.  Although truth be told, I’m pretty sure it won’t even be the last for Rod.

As for the pub itself, the Royal Hotel Bowral is a good solid Royal.  A tiny bit on the swanky side, but definitely still comfortable and welcoming.  The beer selection was also better than most Royals we’d hit previously.  A Young Henry’s Newtowner was the perfect beer to cap off the trip.

Last beer of Leg 2 of the Royal Tour

Other than the beer, the service is generally good and there’s good space to relax with a beer. The fact the bar staff was also super enthusiastic when we told them about the tour earned them extra points for sure.

Rod got the first shout and is thus welcome to make guest appearances at any and all future Royals along the tour

And thus ends Leg 2 of the Royal Tour.  The next update in 2 weeks’ time will be the first stop on Leg 3: Orange and Light Beer Lane.  So do your very best to contain your excitement and we’ll see you then.
