Violet No Regard Blueberry Milkshake Beer by Big Shed Brewing Concern
After last week’s visit to blog-favourite Dainton Brewery, this week we visit another favourite: Adelaide’s Big Shed Brewing Concern. This time it’s for their limited release Violet No-Regard Blue Beer.
This is a weird one for me. It came recommended (thank you Tamara), but I really didn’t have a whole lot to go on other than that. The can gave me no point of reference in terms of a beer variety. It was simply labelled a Blueberry Milkshake ‘Beer’. Going in for the first sip I didn’t know if I was getting a sour, some variety of IPA, or even an unlikely stout. Even after that first sip I’m still not sure.
It’s definitely not a sour as you’d initially expect with a blue/blueberry beer. But what it is, is super smooth. I still can’t quite put my finger on it, but it’s hinting towards an ale. It almost feels like it’s flirting with a bit of hoppiness but it never quite gets there. It’s just its own thing.
Oh, and did I mention Violet No Regard has sparkles? Cuz there are sparkles.
Don’t ask me why, but the sparkles really add to the beer. It’s almost like it gives you something to look at while you’re pondering this genuinely unique beer.
Final verdict: I genuinely liked this beer, but beyond that, I don’t really know what to say about it. It’s one of the odder beers I’ve ever had. But I liked it. It definitely won’t be for everyone, and, like many beers on this blog, I probably wouldn’t be buying a six pack of them. But come on, if you can track down a can, why wouldn’t you try a blue blueberry milkshake beer with sparkles? I’m glad I did.
