Royal Hotel Sunbury
After departing the old school Royal Hotel Seymour, we headed about an hour down the road to the next stop on the Tour, the Royal Hotel Sunbury.
The Royal Hotel Sunbury was a fair bit of a departure from the couple of Victorian Royals we had hit thus far. While the building it occupied definitely appeared to look the part of a vintage Royal, the interior was very much on the shiny-new end of the spectrum.
It was also our first encounter with pokies in a Victorian pub. Roughly half the pub appeared to be dedicated to them. We went to go hang out in the other half.
We were there in the late afternoon and it was starting to fill up. And the vibe of the place was fairly decent.
At the bar, we were pleasantly surprised to be informed that it was in fact happy hour and all schooners were only $6. Bargain! Those came with raffle tickets as well. Even better! Although we were only staying for one, so we weren’t going to be around at the next prize draw at 9:15pm. We were even less likely to swing back down for the subsequent draws at 12:15am and 3:15 am (!).
The interior of the Sunbury Royal, was nice enough, if a touch generic. Comfortable seating was also a bit in short supply. But much of that is nit-pickiness that comes from having 40 other Royals (and counting) to compare it against. It was a fine place to have a schooner. But as soon as that schooner was finished, we were back on the road and on our way to our final Royal of the day: Daylesford.
On the way out, the warm fuzziness of that happy hour deal did seem to fade somewhat for some reason, however.
