Royal Hotel Singleton

The next stop on the Royal Tour was our destination for the evening: the Royal Hotel Singleton.

The Royal Hotel Singleton is very much a standard type of Royal Hotel. And I don’t mean that in a negative way at all. We’re on a mission to hit almost 140 Royal Hotels on this quest and some are going to be a bit middle of the road.

Now to be fair, we rocked up on a Sunday night which is a time not typically associated with having a ton of atmosphere, regardless of how good the pub is.

And that being said, the food was very good and portion sizes generous. The staff were friendly. The accommodation was basic, but perfectly nice and well priced. And it was a very pleasant place to wile away several hours and several beers. It was just a little bit generic feeling.

You could probably guess the name of this pub just by looking at a photo of the interior

The one standout feature of the Royal Hotel Singleton was the outdoor pool table. It was under cover and adjacent to heaters so it’s not like we were playing on a rough water-logged table in someone’s backyard. But it was a great way to wind down a long day primarily spent on the road.

In case you were curious, I won. Every game. John won none.

The next morning we wanted to grab some breakfast before heading out of town, so we hit the fantastically named “Happy Grillmores” directly next to the pub. As we were making what we though was a bit of an early start, there was a bit of concern as to whether the place would be open or not. Our fears were unfounded, however, as apparently Happy Grillmores opens at 3:00AM! One of the benefits to staying in a mining town I suppose.

After a decent breakfast, we hit the road on our way to the next (and second last) Royal of the trip.
