Royal Hotel Richmond
Editor’s Note: following the Essendon post, the next two posts will be written by John. So please enjoy his recounting of the next couple of Royals starting with the Royal Hotel Richmond. Or don’t and I’ll be back in a couple post’s time so you can just hold out for that too
Royal Hotels come in all shapes and sizes, catering to the wishes and whims of a variety of people from all walks of life. And I don’t know where I’m going with this but the Royal Hotel Richmond is a titty bar.

For this reason, they don’t allow photos of the inside of the pub that might capture people. Which is a pity because it’s nice. Historical photos on the walls, dark wood everywhere as you can kind of see from the few photos we could take. But really I could tell you the rest looked like the bridge of the Enterprise and you would either have to believe me or tell me you have also been to said titty bar. Not only do they not allow photos, but the barmaids also frown on men giggling.

As far as catering to people, they must do an absolutely roaring trade in AFL season, with the pub being just across the road from Richmond’s home ground, and not too far from the MCG. I think that’s right, I don’t like AFL or anyone who does. But it’s easy to see how the combo of beers, boobs and footy is no doubt a profitable one.

I’m not sure what else to say about the Royal Richmond, it was a nice pub, cold beer, a nice vibe considering how empty it was. It goes into the category of Royals that are nicer on the inside than they look on the outside. As we know, It’s not about the outside, it’s what’s inside that counts. Very philosophical for a beer blog.

I don’t know if it’s a Royal I would rush back to, unless it’s when Mandy is on. But I guess if I had to choose a boobie bar to spend part of Valentine’s Day with your mate and your dad, I could have done worse than The Royal Hotel Richmond.
