Royal Hotel Muswellbrook

A few weeks back John and I officially commence the second weekend of the Royal Tour. The weekend was largely built around a road trip up to Tamworth to watch the my Sharks demoralise John’s Tigers, but it also presented a brilliant opportunity to check several more Royals off of our list.

The first Royal Hotel we hit was in the Upper Hunter mining town of Muswellbrook. We stopped in to the Royal Hotel Muswellbrook for lunch on our drive up to the game. We were greeted and supplied with menus before we had even fully come through the door. And when the food came, it was damn good and the portion sizes were generous. As we were in the middle of a long drive, we opted for the mid-strength Captain Sensible, but the overall beer selection was pretty decent without being amazing.

One thing that does stick out about the lunch at the Muswellbrook Royal Hotel was the TV showing a veterinary reality show that seemed to exclusively feature tooth extractions from exotic beasts. While you can hardly blame the pub for that, “Too Many Teeth!” did still become the catch cry of the weekend.

And if you like your Argentine football, this is the Royal for you. Both Maradona and Messi jerseys flanked the table we were eating at. To be fair, there was a fair bit of additional sports memorabilia around the place as well (and I do get the feeling it would be an excellent place to watch a game). But we just happened to be sitting in the Buenos Aires section of the pub.
