Royal Hotel Koo Wee Rup
After departing the Royal in Drouin and its murderous history, we headed for our final Royal on this leg: the Royal Hotel Koo Wee Rup.
Koo Wee Rup is a bit of a smaller town than Drouin was, but it seemed fairly nice as we drove in. It being a Sunday, around noon, it wasn’t an overly busy place. But it definitely seemed nice.

As we wandered in, we appeared to be the first customers of the day. The front bar was a pretty standard combo of pool tables and tall tables. Comfy and nice but not necessarily all that unique. The bistro area in the back, on the other hand, was pretty extensive. It looks almost like a restaurant with a pub attached. A nice restaurant to be sure though.

We wandered back to the front bar and ordered a round of Pirate Life South Coast Ales. It’s a beer that had treated us well on the trip so far. But I don’t know what was up with this particular keg, as these beers came out cloudy (cloudier than usual) and with a fair few bits of something floating in them. While I was considering how to politely point out that those beers were gross and we would prefer not to have them, the barmaid beat me to the punch.

I first suspected she noticed the state of the the beers as well when she loudly declared “What the fuck is that?!”. My suspicions were confirmed when she followed up with “Well I’m NOT serving you that!”. So she poured us a round of Carlton’s while on the phone to the pub owner to get him to sort out the issue.

Impressed with the efficiency of the Koo Wee Rup quality control, we hung out over our floaty-free Carlton’s in the front bar for a little while. A bit later we headed in to the now-packed restaurant for lunch before heading to the airport. It ended up being a really good feed. I decided to go for the good old pub classic Nasi Goreng. And I’m glad I did. It was a great meal and a good solid pub to finish the trip on.
And so ended not only this leg of the Tour, but the last of the Victorian Royals. The Royal Hotel Koo Wee Rup marked the 21st and last Victorian Royal and our second fully completed state (after knocking off the 4 in South Australia). It was another good solid Royal to end an excellent trip. Next week will be the first post of the first foray for the Royal Tour into Queensland.
