Royal Hotel Blayney
With visions of Royal Hotel ownership still dancing in our heads from the Royal Hotel Carcoar, we continued on to our final stop on Light Beer Lane and this weekend of the Royal Tour: the Royal Hotel Blayney.
After an epic 11 minute journey, we finally arrived at our destination. I had been through Blayney a couple of times but had never really spent much time there. But a Royal Tour participant (who shall for the moment remain nameless) warned us that Blayney was a place where we should watch ourselves. Luckily for us, this unnamed tour participant turned out to be completely wrong.
The dodgiest thing about the Royal Hotel Blayney ended up being the VB signage out front. Inside, it was clean, comfortable, and had a decent selection of beers on tap. But it’s when you walk through to the pool table area that the Royal Hotel Blayney really sets itself apart. That’s where this particularly passionate publican mounts his massive music memorabilia horde. And yes, I do mean massive. (And no, I’m not going to comment any further on the previous alliterative assault; I got carried away, but I’m not changing it). This Royal has memorabilia from everyone from Green Day to Metallica to Red Hot Chili Peppers.
They also have Creed and Ed Sheeran memorabilia, but nobody’s perfect.
The presence of the pool tables in amongst the mass of music memorabilia gave John a chance to redeem himself from the Singleton Royal Hotel. For those who might not remember, at that particular Royal, John and I played several times and he did not win a single game. Well at the Blayney Royal Hotel, he certainly did. Win a single game, that is.
I won several more than that, but hey, credit where credit is due.
This was the last stop on this particular leg of the tour so with a long drive home ahead of us, we weren’t able to stay long. But we did have a bit of a wander around the rest of the pub. It had a small, but pleasant outdoor area, and the food looked pretty good too. This is one of those we kind of wished we had a bit more time to hang out in. It wasn’t quite on the level of the Murrurundi Royal, but I still could’ve hung out for several more beers if our schedule had allowed.
And most importantly for our purposes, there was plentiful, photo-worthy, Royal Hotel branding around the place. This kind of branding makes it easy to include tons of very serious selfies. Please see below for a short selection of our favourites.
And that brings to a close the 3rd leg of the Royal Tour thus far. It was a whirlwind trip up through Manildra and Orange, and then the dash up Light Beer Lane through Woodstock, Lyndhurst, Mandurama, Carcoar, and finally Blayney.
The next leg of the tour takes us out of the country for the first time and up to Sydney. So be prepared for John to regale you with his incisive wit and tales of what we got up to in the Big Smoke, coming soon.
