Not Here To Fornicate With Arachnids by Against the Grain Brewery
This week’s beer is quite simply a beast. It’s a collaboration between Baldivis Cellarbrations, Forward Hops, and Against the Grain Brewery from Kentucky and it’s called Not Here to Fornicate with Arachnids (a sanitized version of a popular Aussie idiom for anyone reading from overseas). This is a massive beer, but holy cow it’s good. It might just be a good idea to have a friend or two on hand to assist.
Not Here to Fornicate with Arachnids (which will henceforth be referred to as NHTFWA for the sake of brevity), is a bourbon barrel aged Baltic porter with maple and coffee. And that pretty much hits the nail on the head. This beer clocks in at 9.1% and it tastes every bit of it. But just as it feels like it’s about to get overpowering, the sweetness of the maple and the kick of coffee ride in to blunt the boozy flavour and add in a really nice complexity.
Don’t get me wrong, this is definitely a sipping beer. But it’s one you’re probably going to want another of as soon as it’s finished.
NHTFWA is definitely not an everyday beer. But it is huge, complex, and generally just awesome. I highly recommend grabbing it if you find one.
