Double Dump IIPA by Resin Brewing
This week’s beer is a hoppy blast from a new Wollongong area brewery: Double Dump IIPA from Resin Brewing in Bulli.
Resin Brewing had the misfortune of having their grand opening in March this year. Given all the happenings in the world at the moment, not the best time to start a small brewery. I had heard some good things about their beers and the brewery though, so I decided to swing by on my way home from work to try for myself. There were a number of excellent sounding beers on offer, but for my first try I couldn’t go past the Double Dump IIPA.
This beer tastes and smells like it has all of the hops. All of them. The aroma has a strong punch of both piney and citrusy hits. And the first sip brings every bit of that pine and citrus plus a hint of dank hoppiness as well. But far from being discordant, all those swirling hop flavours resolve fantastically into a really damn good beer. A really damn good, really damn hoppy beer.
Smaller and newer craft breweries definitely need the support of the beer-loving community in these times. And the Wollongong area has it’s fair share of good small breweries too (Rube Goldberg, Illawarra, Five Barrel just to name a few). Going to a small local brewery like Resin for beer right now is an excellent way to give that support. However, an even better reason to go to Resin is that they make really, really freaking good beer.
I love a good IPA or double IPA or any other label of beer that is crammed full of hops. And Double Dump is indeed crammed full of hops. If you’re not all that obsessed with hops, by all means have a crack at one of Resin’s other beers. I’ve only had the Double Dump, but if the other beers are done with quality of that hoppy beast, then I’m guessing the rest of the repertoire will be just as good.
