Cory’s Top 20 – #20 Capital Brewing
Rank: #20
Location: Fyshwick, ACT
Favourite Beers: Evil Eye Red IPA, Hang Loose Juice NEIPA, West Coast Flex DDH IPA
Previous Blog Appearances: Evil Eye Red IPA
Capital Brewing’s Evil Eye Red IPA is one of my absolute go-to’s in terms of beer I like to have on hand in the fridge. It’s the perfect combination of delicious, fairly easy to track down, and a little bit fancy. The emphasis being on the ‘delicious’ component in that previous sentence.
Despite my not-infrequent visits to Canberra, I’ve still yet to get a chance to visit their brewery. It is very much high on my to-do list. I have, however, been to a Capital Brewing ‘Beer-gustation’ for my birthday year before last. The organization of the event left a bit to be desired (the best description I heard was ’a literal shemozzle’). But the saving grace was definitely the quality (and quantity if I’m being honest) of the beer on offer. And if we’re being honest, if you go to a brewery event and your main takeaway was ’at least the beer was really good’ then that’s really the main thing you’re after.
The Evil Eye is a clear standout, but definitely have a lot of time for a Trail Pale, Rockhopper IPA, or XPA as well. All are really high quality core range beers. But other than the Evil Eye, my favourites have been the seasonal releases. As suggested above, the Hang Loose Juice NEIPA and First Tracks Imperial Stout are fantastic if you can find them. I’ve heard tell of more extreme double and triple IPA’s and red IPA’s that are periodically brewed up as well. But I haven’t been successful in tracking one down just yet. There’s a steady stream of other seasonal and limited releases coming out of Fyshwick. And that is a primary reason I need to get myself down there in the near future.
