There are some breweries that have big reputations in the craft beer world (mostly for very good reasons). But now and then a brewery will sneak up on you, especially if you’re in to trying a variety of beers. For me, that was the case Woolshed Brewery from the tiny town of Murtho, outside of Renmark, South Australia.
I often get myself a selection of interesting beers from my favourite bottle shops or online retailers without necessarily having a close look at which brewery they come from. And on three separate occasions, I absolutely loved beers that I had purchased on a bit of a whim, only to find later that they were Woolshed beers.
The first was Blackberry Bambalam. The Great Southern Trendkiller followed shortly thereafter. My favourite of the lot, though is probably the Scorched Almond Porter. And though I haven’t had a chance to sample it myself, I’ve heard good things from friends about the Bloody Eyed Mary Cocktail Sour.
I haven’t had as many beers from Woolshed Brewery as I have from most other breweries on this list. But the mere fact that I felt compelled to write about the first three Woolshed beers I tried, means that they definitely belong on this list. It also means I need to start seeking out more of their beers.
