The next brewery on the list is actually the very first brewery I ever wrote about on this blog. Since then, I’ve been back for new growler fills every few weeks. It’s a brewery that every Wollongong beer-lover needs to try: Cory’s Top 20 – #17 Reub Goldberg Brewing Machine.
Reub Goldberg is a typical hole-in-the-wall type brewery in an unassuming row of shops in Tarrawanna. It’s exactly the kind of cozy, welcoming beer haven that you can settle in to and work your way through the array of brews on offer.
Speaking of that beer-array, it’s varied, constantly updated, fantastic across the board. My personal favourite was the Isolation IIPA that they made during the early days of the lockdown. I’m hoping they’ll bring it back at some point (preferably without the associated plague-forced isolation). But even if they don’t, the selection of beers on offer is still excellent. My personal favourites are the red and hoppy offerings (though that is the direction my tastes tend to run). Jack the RIPA is a kick-ass red IPA that thankfully is on regular rotation. But their session red, myriad IPA varieties, as well as their darker and unique brews (the Salted Plum Sour springs to mind).
Reub Goldberg might be 45 minutes away from where I live, but I make time to get down there every month or so to get a new growler of what they have on offer. For my money, it’s the best brewery in Wollongong, and I’ve tried them all. Often. Multiple times each.
