The next brewery on the list is the first from Tasmania: Cory’s Top 20 – #13 T-Bone Brewing Co. Tassie is definitely a state that punches well above it’s weight in terms of good craft beer. But I’ll admit, T-Bone was one that had slipped under my radar until relatively recently.
T-Bone Brewing was first brought to my attention by a Tasmanian reader of the blog. And if that was all I ever got from writing this, that recommendation alone would make the whole exercise worthwhile. In the space of a couple of weeks I went from not knowing T-Bone existed, to it becoming one of my favourite breweries.
So far in this blog (and in this list in particular), I’ve found myself using some variation of the phrase ‘the core range is good, but the seasonal and limited beers are where this brewery really shines’. But I reckon it’s actually the opposite with T-Bone. The standout beers for me are the Choc Milk Stout and Fruit Bowl IPA, both of which are proud members of T-Bone’s core range. The citrus peel bite of the Fruit Bowl IPA is superb. And the Choc Milk Stout is one of the best beers of that type I think I’ve ever had. Feel free to follow the link above if you’re interested in a more verbose singing of that beer’s praises.
That’s not to say the special releases aren’t good. I particularly loved the 50/50 Hazy IPA. The citrus and coconut cloudiness are the perfect complimentary haze to the hoppy bite in that one. And I’m constantly checking back to see which of their seasonal beers are on offer. I’m especially eager to give the Heritage Red IPA and Big Old Stout a crack as soon as they’re back available.
T-Bone Brewing is one of my favourite beer discoveries of the past couple years. So the next time I’m able to get myself down to Hobart, I’m definitely planning on settling in for a night or two at T-Bone.
