For the next brewery on the list, we go to Newcastle for Cory’s Top 20 – #12 Foghorn Brewhouse.
Foghorn benefits heavily from having one of the best brewhouse venues on this list. It’s smack in the middle of Newcastle’s CBD, massive, and it nails the old-school-warehouse-meets-beer-hall vibe. And the food on offer is fantastic. The burgers in particular are exceptional, but I’ve yet to have a bad meal there.
But what really matters, especially for the purposes of this blog, is the beer. And Foghorn are certainly no slouches in that department. There’s usually about a dozen of their beers on a rotating tap list. But luckily for me, my two favourites are part of Foghorn’s core range. The Young Americans IPA is a brilliant hoppy, resiny mouthful of awesome. It packs a massive punch but is still dangerously sessionable. And the Sligo Extra Stout is an unapologetic massive, dark, and surprisingly hoppy cauldron of black beer goodness.
Foghorn Brewhouse is the kind of place I would be every second night if I lived in Newcastle. Great venue, great food, and just damn good beer.
