Blasta Brewing Co

This past week I was out in Western Australia for work.  While in Perth I was fortunate enough to make my way over to Blasta Brewing Co in Burswood, just to the east of the CBD.  It’s a long trip over to WA, but a place like Blasta makes the trip feel pretty worth it.

Pretty impressive inside and out

The place itself is a really good setup.  The first thing you notice after walking in underneath the giant neon unicorn logo is the massive beerhall-style space.  Plenty of long tables for beers with mates as well as smaller booths and even a large outdoor area.  But anyway, that’s enough about the space.  The blog is not called Cory Loves Interiors.  On to the beer.

Perusing the beer list, it looked right off like the two kinds of beers they primarily did at Blasta were wheat beers (not super excited) and hoppy beers (very much super excited).  And lucky for me, the hoppy fare significantly outnumbered the wheat.

Beer list at the time of my visit

I had a tasting tray of Unleash the Beast NEIPA, My Way Grapefruit IPA, Chainbreaker IPA, Grimster Rocks Pale Ale, and their special Nitro Stout.  Of those, the Chainbreaker and Nitro Stout were definitely the standouts for me.  There was one other special brew that wasn’t available as part of the tray, however.  That was the Black IIPA.  I waited and had a full pour of that after my tasting paddle and my goodness it did not disappoint.  Dark in colour, but light in weight, and super hoppy and super smooth.  I could not recommend those three beers (Chainbreaker, Nitro Stout, and Black IIPA) highly enough.  They are all just damn good beers.

The black IIPA was superlative

The beer from Blasta is really good.  But that’s not the only reason to stop in (although it is still a very good reason).  The food is also excellent and eclectic.  For starters, I went with the ‘too-funky-and-intriguing-not-to-order’ haggis spring rolls.  I had no idea how they would be, but was powerless to not order them.  Lucky for me, they were really good.  As were the sliders that I had for a main.  In perusing the menu, there were easily another 8 or 9 items I could have happily ordered as well.

How could you not try the haggis spring rolls?!

I opted to not go for dessert (unless you count the couple of takeaway cans I picked up on my way out) but I’m fully planning on it next time I’m in town.  Because even though the Perth craft beer scene is definitely not lacking in quality options (stay tuned for future posts), I’ll definitely be back at Blasta Brewing for another go next time I’m back out west.
